Piranha Games which is the studio behind “MechWarrior On-Line” announced very recently that they are developing another powerhouse of excitement called MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries! That being said, we want to say that we are super excited for this Single-Player Entry by Piranha games, as it has been a long time since we’ve seen a new generation of MechWarrior in the spotlight.
- More Cinematic Cut-Scenes For Mechs
- Support For Higher Resolutions 2K & 4K
- Ultra-Realistic Cock-Pit Mechanics
- Only Offers Single-Player Campaign
- Not Much Information On Maps & Missions
- Not Very Polished Out MechWarriors
The last entry was the MechWarrior On-Line Series, which was free to play, but was based heavily on internal micro transactions to keep the project rolling. When this version of the game initially was released, we really enjoyed it for quite some time, till the general screen resolution standard, “1080P” more specifically went from 1080P to the 2K-4K range. At this point, the game felt extremely handicapper once it was played on these higher resolution systems. Hence, the game took a serious dive due to this technological advancement and never really recovered.
We Just Can’t Wait!
Our passion sparked at the time of the original MechWarrior: Mercenaries, which came with a workstation purchased from Radio Shack back in 1997! IBM Aptiva to be more precise. I believe computers at that time which came with decent gaming video cards… came with games as such, and we were super stoked to own this game at a time where games like this were treated like “really complex piece of software” with not much support from either the developer or the distribution company. This literally meant that if you had a CD of the game and it did not work on the computer for any reason, you were in deep trouble. Either you had to throw away the CD or get a new computer. There was absolutely no support!
However, in our case we were able to play the game without major issues, and boy it was amazing! It was one of the more complex games we’ve played in the past, as controlling the mech in a pixelated environment was a skill of its own. But, the fact that even with low graphical interface and pixel driven graphics, the game delivered hours of fun and it was also a mind-cruncher, as you had to plan your routes, set way and communicate with your Mech-Team on a very precise and different level, which other games did not deliver at that time.
This game was almost forgotten by us in the past, as there were no prominent releases till the MechWarrior On-Line, which was a lot of fun, but also a disappointment at the same time, as the game lagged in the early stages of release and was extremely complex in general to setup the mech and to play with in the first place. I would say the problem was more like “lack of tutorials” than anything else in the beginning…. However, recently we went back to visit this game in 1080P and it was nice and polished for the most part. But, still no 2K or 4K support. I guess they were putting all their eggs in MechWarrior 5 at Piranha Studios.
Another Installment of The Infamous Giant Robot Simulator!– ALPHA Rogue Gaming Network
That being said, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is set to be a Single-Player campaign shooter for the time being with amazing graphics and technological advancements in the main engine of the game. The game somewhat takes the route of “Wolfenstein” as it also focuses heavily on Single-Player, however who knows? Maybe in the future, due to the On-Line nature of previous installments, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will release the On-Line version in the form of a Season-Pass! Which will be super exciting…
and will certainly push this game to the top of the charts as a lot of the original MechWarrior Mercenary fans are absolutely loyal to this game and frankly, it brings back a whole lot of good old memories when we think about the past titles of this game, and we were all little children with absolutely no worries in our lives and tons of time to play! It was a lifetime ago, and what a time to be alive right now to experience another installment of the infamous giant robot simulator… the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries! We will see you on the battlefield pilot!
